Local law enforcement are asking residents to stay off the levees and dikes.
“You have no idea if the levee has erosion underneath,” said Chief Jeanette Persons. “If you walk on the levees in weakened condition it could give way.”
Also a concern is driving motorized vehicles or riding bicycles on the dikes and levees.
“It just isn’t safe,” said Persons.
The poly used to hold back erosion is very slippery and getting too close to it could also cause mishaps. The current is fast and very dangerous.
Law enforcement are also asking residents to not go sightseeing on county roads as many are closed or washed out. An incident occurred over the weekend involving a vehicle driving into a washout eight feet deep and 10 feet wide.
“The county roads aren’t safe,” said Deputy Chris Sandvig. “We don’t need people falling into washouts.”
